Ariana's Cure

They say a journey of a thousand miles begins with but a single step. When Ariana Kallas was recently diagnosed with Morquio Syndrome—a progressive childhood disorder causing severe skeletal disease and bone deformity—her single step became a lifetime challenge. The devastation of Morquio Syndrome is that it not only debilitates and greatly shortens one’s life, but that it dares to strike the most precious gift of all—our children. Yet, when gazing upon Ariana’s angelic face, when looking into her beautiful bright eyes and seeing that captivating smile, one knows a miracle must be just around the corner. The primary researcher in this field, Dr. Shunji Tomatsu,
Associate Professor at the St. Louis University School of Medicine, Pediatric Research Institute, in St. Louis, Missouri, has been working on Morquio Type A research for over seventeen years. Recently, he has managed to isolate and create the enzyme that will completely arrest the progression of this horrific disease. Dr. Tomatsu believes he is very close to providing the necessary treatment that will also eliminate the symptoms of this disease. The next stage involves clinical trials for his enzyme replacement therapy, and all this, of course, requires funding. Toward this end, the Cathedral and the Kallas family are hosting the June 2 benefit, entitled “ A Night of Magic and Miracles,” in an effort to support Morquio research. Additionally, online donations are being accepted for supporting Dr. Tomatsu's Morquio research. Your financial support would be a very special show of support, not only for little Ariana, but for all the children who have been diagnosed with Morquio Syndrome. We must share with you that the response has given us encouragement, and we thank you. Once again, thank you for your support, and may God bless you.
