The Russians already had a bishop in San Francisco prior to the Greek bishop. You can go to the OCA website for details. Russia was in chaos at the time due to the Communist revolution. The immigration to the Americas produced multiple diocese in one country. This is understandable and a new situation in church history other then the historical example of Greek populations in Italy during the pre-Byzantine and Byzantine era with their own monasteries and maybe their own Greek bishops in Italy.

However, from a canonical standpoint the First Ecumenical council stated that there should only be one bishop per a city. The sixth ecumenical council decrees that only a man who is willing to follow the canons is to be elevated to the office of bishop. If you follow the canons and there was already a Russian bishop in San Francisco, then the creation of a Greek bishop in San Francisco was uncanonical.

I would like to know about Greek families from Santa Rosa in the 1920's. My Greek grandfather was Peter Nicholas or (Diamandis may have been the name in Greece instead of Nicholas). The Greeks in Santa Rosa came to San Francisco for the major Feast Days such as Christmas.

Dear Pater,

Hello! I have an important question to ask you please.

I am U.S. born, baptized in the Greek Orthodox Church in
the U.S., and of course Greek Orthodox.

I want to marry in your Church, but the gentlemen, that I am marrying, is not Greek Orthodox, but Catholic, living in
San Francisco.

I am now writing to you now, from Athens, Greece.

Do not know, what the requirements are so that we can
marry at your Greek Orthodox Church.

Thank you in advance.

Look forward to hearing from you.

With great respect,
Elpida Kasimati

Hello Father Theo,
I happened to see your name on the list and decided to write to you. I hope you and Zoe are well. I was attempting to contact the church in San Francisco to see if they were interested in buying my book Giorgi's Greek Tragedy to sell at their festival in September. The publisher is offering a 40% discount if five or more books are ordered. Did Dean show you my flier that I sent to him last July? All the information is in my website about the book.
I'm not sure how this reply message works or if you will receive this.
Give my love to the family and I pray you are well.
Your cousin, Potoula
