Saturday, May 5, 2007 - SF Metropolis Historical Symposium

To the San Francisco Bay Area Greek Community:

I want to take this time to let you know about an upcoming SF Metropolis event.

On Saturday, May 5, 2007, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of San Francisco, the oldest Greek Orthodox Church within the Metropolis, will host this year's symposium for historical societies within the Metropolis. This is an ideal event for anyone who has an interest in Greek American history.

This year's program will be fantastic. Our program will include a presentation on the history of the Russian Orthodox Church in our Metropolis. This will be an interesting and timely topic considering that Greek people worshiped at the Russian Orthodox Church prior to the founding of our own communities.

Representatives from some of the oldest parishes in our Metropolis will be giving presentations; specifically Seattle, Los Angeles, Oakland, and San Francisco. The story of each community is fascinating. Greek American authors such as Dr. James Dimitriou, Mr. Constantine Skedros, & Mrs. Theodora Argue will be speaking regarding the history of their respective communities.

There will be presentations from the Patriarch Athenagoras Orthodox Institute (PAOI) and the Salt Lake City Greek History Museum. Both institutions are dedicated to the preservation of our culture, history, and faith. These organizations have so much to offer researchers and historians.

There will be a wonderful presentation on the history of the Daughters of Penelope, a worldwide philanthropic organization founded in San Francisco. Finally, there will be presentations from parishes regarding their historical preservation efforts. A full day!

There will be an excellent selection of books for sale. Your registration includes continental breakfast and buffet lunch.

Come and enjoy this very special day with us! To download a program agenda and registration form please click here. If you have any questions please contact Jim Lucas by email at jim@loukas.com. For more information on Holy Trinity's historical society, click here.
