San Francisco California Articles
Newspaper articles regarding St. Sophia, Annunciation, Holy Trinity, San Francisco Greek Community, and events in Greece are listed here.
(A note regarding our research:The California was a "Greek language" newspaper founded in San Francisco in 1908 by Anastasios Mountanos.
Peter Mountanos was the editor. In 1945, Mr. Mountanos sold the paper. The last owner renamed the paper the "New California". The California
remained in business until 1973.
All issues still exist today, and fortunately are available to those researching the Greek community. All of these articles are in Greek. We
decided not to translate them as to preserve the original meaning. During this period, Greeks wrote in "katherevousa", simply meaning a more
difficult form of modern Greek. The Greek used on the internet is "demotiki" and it is commonly referred to as modern Greek. Only three types of accents
are used. These articles had to be presented in demotiki so they can presented on the internet.
If you need assistance with setting your computer for Greek, please review this page.)
