Greeks Plan Celebration
Greeks of San Francisco will celebrate the centenary of the Hellenic Independence Day Thursday with a banquet, reception and ball at the
Fairmont Hotel under the direction of the Hellenic Liberal League of San Francisco. An extensive program with several prominent speakers
has been arranged for the banquet hour, which starts at 6:30pm.
Instead of a grand march to open the ball at 9 o'clock there will be a famous Grecian dance by fifty Greek women.
The banquet program includes: speech by Harry P. Lister on "Enponium of Venizelos;" panegyric by Demetrios Kappatos, president of the league
and chairman for the evening; speech by Mrs. N. Damianakie of Oakland on "Part played by Greek women during the seven years' war for Greek
independence;" speech by Mrs. Erene M. Demetrakopoulos of Hayward, a native of Crete; Greek and American patriotic songs and vocal selections
by choruses of men and women.
