Athens Government Sends Squadron of Warships to Scene of the Disturbance

ATHENS, April 25. - An affray between the Turkish gendarmes and Greeks is reported from Smyrna, in which Delyannis, secretary of the Greek consulate, was slightly wounded. Serious complications may ensue. A Greek squadron has sailed for Smyrna.

It appears that Delyannis endeavored to open shops of Greek merchants which had been closed for non-payment of taxes. This was opposed by the gendarmes. A struggle ensued. Delyannis was wounded and fired on by the gendarmes. The Turkish authorities imprisoned Delyannis and two consulate guards, who were released only after the intervention of the French Consul.

The Turkish authorities are now holding a conference with foreign representatives.
