SAN FRANCISCO FOOD BANK DRIVE

Each year Sunday School participates in the San Francisco Food Bank Drive for the needy. Food is distributed to the homebound, to seniors, and homeless individuals. There is a wonderful lesson to be learned here, which has to do with God’s love, tolerance, and the gift of giving. The food drive begins Sunday, November 7. We thank you in advance for your generous participation in the Food Drive.

GLENDI RAISES $12,000 IN SUPPORT OF OUR DANCE PROGRAM

The Dance Group Glendi, held on October 16, was a resounding success. An evening of dancing and merriment, showcasing our young people. Ostensibly, it was held in anticipation of Father Stephen’s birthday (which is November 1st). The 380 guests were treated to a wonderful dinner and dessert buffet, and watched each of our groups perform at least one dance from their repertoire. The evening was the culmination of a workshop weekend for Arete, which is learning some of the folk dances from the island of Cyprus. Nicholas Theophanous, the Honorary Consul General of Cyprus in Northern California, was present at the festivities, together with his family, both to applaud the groups for their efforts and to announce that he had secured native Cypriot costumes for all the members of Arete, as a gift to the Cathedral.

Together with the special raffle held that evening, about $12,000 was raised that evening. (This is a gross figure, off which the Glendi expenses will be taken.) The net proceeds will be divided among the four groups, in support of costumes, materials, workshops, and FDF participation.

CHRISTMAS PAGEANT/ LUNCHEON

Our Sunday School students invite you to share with them as they tell us, in their own way, about the birth of Christ. A play or pageant will be presented, composed of a number of parts. Students accepting parts in the play should attend Sunday School regularly in order to familiarize themselves with the parts and enhance their performance. A complimentary lenten (i.e. meatless) luncheon, sponsored by the Sunday School, will follow. Who knows? Santa may just appear. In any case, there will be a variety of activities for the children, in a festive atmosphere. Every year, this becomes a wonderful family event. Needless to say, many volunteers are needed to pull this off.
Please call Denise Yeilding and offer to assist.
