weekend in San Diego, are hosting a Glendi, Saturday, February 11. Details

SUNDAY SCHOOL PLANS EVENTS
As Sunday School resumes, following the Christmas break, our dedicated
staff of volunteer teachers wish to share with you a number of events
impacting our children and ways in which you, as parents, grandparents,
or just interested parishioners, may wish to assist in the various programs.
We cannot stress enough how important it is that you bring your children
to Church. The lessons learned and the relationships which are nurtured
and developed, not only among the children and their teachers, but among
all of us in our relationship with the Lord, are unparallaleld. No matter
what triumphs, dificulties or challenges we face later on in life, we
fall back on the faith which was nurtured within us during these formative
years.
OTHER SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS
We recently received a letter from the SF Food Bank thanking us for
the generous donations of food by our Sunday School children. In total,
we collected 444 lbs. of food, an increase from last year. Thank you
to all the families who participated in the act of giving.
We have begun our second semester of Sunday School. Our lower school
(pre-K - 4th grade) focuses on bible stories the next month , and then
Lent, and our upper school ( 5th grade -12th grade) will begin work on
their speeches for the Oratorical Festival.
Our Oratorical Festival will be held on Sunday, March 19, following
the Divine Liturgy. The district festival will take place at the Holy
Cross Church in Belmont on April 30th, and the Metropolis festival will
be held at St. Nicholas Ranch May 5th - 7th.
This year Annunciation Cathedral will host the Archdiocese Festival,
with finalists from throughout the Archdiocese of America, June 2nd -
4th. Many volunteers will be needed to host this event. If you can help
with greeting, setting tables, or other jobs that will be necessary,
please contact Denise Yeilding or Father Stephen.
As a result of the Archdiocese Oratorical Festival, this year's graduation
ceremony and luncheon will be held June 11th (Pentecost Sunday). Please
mark your calendars for this great family event!
GOYA ON THE MOVE
Some thirty members strong--and growing--is our GOYA. Recently, our
teens met to elect officers. The results are as follows: Alexandra Kallas
was elected Youth Advisor; Ariana Stratakis was elected President; Katerina
Loufas was elected Vice President; Katherine Curd was elected Secretary;
Athena Flynn was elected Corresponding Secretary; Harry Misthos was elected
Treasurer; Erini Misthos was elected Assistant Treasurer; and Yvonne
Chiappari was elected Administrator.
GOYA plans to do a number of things this year. In addition to Christmas
carolling, which occured on Saturday, December 23rd, dances, attendance
at Basketball and other sporting events, GOYA seeks to be of service
to the community. One of the first things GOYA wishes to do is to host
a dinner to honor the Ladies Philoptochos, those hard-working women who
have made a lasting difference in the life of our Cathedral community,
and whose efforts our youth wishes to applaud and emulate. The dinner
will take place Saturday, March 4th. Cocktails at 6 p.m., followed by
dinner at 7 p.m. A raffle and bingo will follow.
