Serving in the Altar

One of the most profound and formative opportunities lies in serving as an altar boy. This ministry is not just about assisting the clergy during services. It's about growing in faith, developing responsibility, and becoming a young leader in the life of the Cathedral.

Why Serve?

Altar boys have the unique privilege of standing close to the holy altar during worship. This role helps deepen their understanding of the Divine Liturgy, the sacraments, and the sacred rhythms of the Church year. Serving teaches boys discipline, attentiveness, and reverence. It instills in them a sense of responsibility and punctuality, both to God and to their fellow parishioners. Boys in the altar form bonds with each other through shared experiences, teamwork, and service. Many develop lasting friendships that are rooted in faith and mutual respect. Many young men who serve as altar boys go on to become leaders in their parishes, and some even feel called to the priesthood or other ministries. Serving helps them discover their God-given gifts and how they might use them in service to the Church. Altar servers are a visible sign of youth participation in the Church. They help create a more prayerful, organized, and beautiful liturgy—something that enriches the spiritual life of the whole community.
